The Arcadia Theater’s “Coal-ala-Bear”
Children’s Series fulfills the Arcadia Theater’s mission to
include the cultural needs of the children of the Somerset
and Greater Johnstown area region, through live children’s
theater. The “Coal-ala-Bear” Series’ name and logo were
derived to honor the coal heritage of Windber, PA. In 2001,
the Whalley Charitable Trust made a commitment to support
this valuable children’s series.
All of the performances in the series are
performed by professional children’s theatre groups; and all
are interactive musicals for children ranging in age from
3-12.
The Arcadia Theater opened up its
2007-2008 “Coal-ala-Bear” Children’s series with the “Legend
of Sleepy Hollow” on Sunday, October 21st at
2:00PM. Based on the original
story by Washington Irving, The “Legend of Sleepy Hollow”
told the story of Tarry Town, a place where strange things
happen and the townsfolk seem entranced by spirits. Ichabod
Crane, a well-educated teacher who comes to live in Tarry
Town, meets a mysterious fate.
The rest of the 2007-2008 “Coal-ala-Bear”
Children’s Series include “A Christmas Carol” on Sunday,
Dec. 9, 2007, “Sleeping Beauty” on Sunday, March
9, 2008, and “Huck Finn & Tom Sawyer and the Mighty
Mississippi” on Sunday, April 13, 2008.
All performances are approximately 1 hour
in length; and ticket prices for all shows and seats are
$6.00 each.
